A video of an unknown bank staff in Nigeria has been trending on social media after they were captured fleeing the work place through the fence at the back as customers surround the banking premises in efforts to get money.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has declared 10 February 2023 as the deadline for currency swap.
The newly-designed notes were introduced in December as part of a measure by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to crackdown on currency counterfeiting, ransom payments to kidnappers, as well reduce the volume of money outside the banking system.
The deadline to swap old notes was initially the end of January, but faced with increased pressure the CBN postponed it to February 10.
Due to that millions of Nigerians have been queueing for hours outside banks to try and swap for the new notes.
In a video spotted online by Loopsghonline, some banks staff were captured climbing the fence to evade angry mob waiting for them outside the bank amid new Naira note scarcity and cash withdrawal limit over counter. One of them was heard making calls, asking if the police had arrived.
