According to Ghanaian musician Quamina MP, despite the high caliber of Ghana’s music, Nigeria’s music industry is superior because of its enormous population and the involvement of foreign investors and record labels.

In his opinion, Nigerians have more opportunities than Ghanaians have. He notably emphasized having access to major record labels, receiving decent distribution, using marketing techniques, and receiving foreign money.

Speaking to The Big Show host Nana Kwesi on Class 91.3 FM, MP said “You see, the Nigerians get a lot of opportunities that helps them,” he said. “They are also many. We [Ghanaians] are not really plenty.”

He explained what he meant by ‘opportunities’ saying, “I’m talking about all these record labels – the big big record labels.

“I’m talking about good distributions, marketing strategies, people from outside the country investing and all that.”

In comparison, he claimed, things are different in Ghana, highlighting the fact that he has never had an investor and has always paid for his musical endeavors on his own, even while he was a member of Ground Up.

“Personally, ever since I started, I have never had an investor… It’s been me all along even when I was with Ground Up, Chale,” MP revealed.

MP thinks that Ghanaian music is of higher quality than Nigerian music, notwithstanding the difficulties affecting the Ghanaian music business. But he underlined the need for more chances to promote Ghanaian music abroad, so that anyone can listen to it, wherever they are.

“My squad, we do crazy music – better music.” What is left, is the opportunity to be able to spread it out there [internationally] so everybody can hear it no matter where they are.”

He concluded that he would continue to work hard and hoped that it would pay off soon.
